Character Information

Character Name: Sollux Captor
Character Series: MSPA: Homestuck
Character Age: 13
Character Gender: Male
Original Canon
Canon Point: Here.
Background Link: http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Sollux_Captor
Personality:

Sollux has quite a few interests and hobbies. His largest being computer hacking and writing viruses. He also cares for mind bees, the honey they produce is fed to his lusus. His rather crass humor and colorful language often scares people off as well as his mood swings despite him being good-natured. His humor is overly sexual and sometimes disturbingly odd. He comes up with bizarre metaphors, often with underlying sexual themes. One example is where he compares someone who can't figure computers out by fucking with them to registered sex offenders.

He makes it rather clear, rather quickly, that he has an affinity for twos. A duality complex that he seems to have a bit of an obsession over. It's fitting with his weird split brain and vision. He wears mismatched shoes, he loves red and blue, he types two instead of to or too and the list continues on. This of course comes from the fact that the character himself is based off Gemini which is very duality themed.

Sollux is bipolar, it is a large factor of his character in general. He goes from manic phases to depressive phases and is pretty easy to provoke into being angry/upset. His highest manic point in the comic aside from when he goes blind is before they enter the game. When he is manic he can come off as arrogant, douche-y and incredibly snarky, but also friendly. His depressive moods are full of self hate, self loathing and general overall gloom. While he has his moods, he still has crippling self esteem that is always an underlying factor. He can get super cranky in a downswing due to the voices of the imminently desceased and the headaches he gets. There are many examples of said esteem but one that most overlook is when he tells Feferi he doesn't know why she puts up with him and even the time when he insults himself to Karkat.

Sollux is generally an introvert, he can have some moments where he seems like an extrovert but in most cases he tries to keep to himself and a select few trolls he gets along with. This is especially obvious when he is in a cranky mood. As stated before, he can be seen to be an extrovert; Kanaya said that he used to talk a lot more to her and she'd be the one trying to get him to shut up, not vice versa.

Sollux is a bit melodramatic, if something goes wrong he treats it like the end of the world, especially if he is in a downswing. Then everything that goes wrong ever is his fault and how dare you think otherwise, he's not worth your time, stop fooling yourself. The opposite of that though is if he's in a really good mood, then, fuck you because you can't touch this. He's a hacker geniiu2 and you're pathetic for even thinking you can handle all of this. He's the shit and nothing can stop him, nor will he waste any time on such useless things like eating or sleeping. Hah, pointless when he's this amazing.

He is one of the more laid back trolls but he does have a violent side. This is proven when Eridan asks Feferi to join him in attempting to join Jack Noir, Sollux not only provokes Eridan, repeatedly but also threatens him and says he “should have killed him on lobaf when he had the chance." This is one of the other times other than his first duel that he is seen to be violent like most other trolls. This violence seems to be uncommon though as he seems rather passive. Lowbloods are known to be less violent than higherbloods so this is of course common for someone of his caste.

The Gemini is shown to be a really caring friend and self-sacrificial for those he holds dear. He ends up sacrificing his life to save his friends later on in the comic and only coded the game because he wanted to save the world and be a hero. He can be insensitive during mood swings but later beats himself up over it. There is an example of such behavior when he sends Karkat all those viruses and then realizes he was just trying to show off and be arrogant. Even when none of his friends believed him that they were all going to die he fixed the computers up for them and kept hoping there was a possibility to change their fate, which he obviously was striving for. He is a good, caring, laid back friend but he often scares most away with his crass humor or mood swings.

Abilities: Psionic powers / telekinesis, the ability to control things with his mind.

Eyelazers (Optic blasts) which is a large burst of psychic energy released from his eyes that can disintegrate just about anything.

Vision twofold, the ability to see the future and the present at the same time.

Hearing the voices of the imminently deceased, often screams of them that can do more harm than help.

Super hacker, he is an amazing hacker that writes viruses and codes rather often.

Sample Entry:
(After Aradiabot explodes, so he's in a down mood.)

“Thut up and go away, Kaykay. I thwear to god if you don't I am going to flip tho much thhit. You won't have any thhit to flip and be an annoying athhhole about... How about you do uth a favor and find thomeone who careth to lithten to you flap your jawth in the proverbial breethze.”

Bi-colored eyes don't even raise from his screen to look at the other male. This was all his fault, he coded that damn game and now they were all dropping like flies. This wasn't what was supposed to happen, they were supposed to be heroes; he and Aradia were supposed to save the world. The sound of steps knocked him out of his thoughts. He couldn't quite tell if they were getting closer or going farther away. Great, now he was being a complete douchebag to his best friend.

“Thhit. Wait, Kaykay?”

He turned around with what seemed to be a permanent frown. Blunted fingernails scratch at the back of his head nervously. Somewhere in the back of his mind he wished he could just be in a manic mood, none of this depressed crap. Why couldn't he just be quietly at his computer writing all of the codes?

MSPA
Canon Point: Right after Eridan saves Karkat's life from Equius by dragging him underwater and expects their trust.

Setting:
Originally Homestuck is about a bunch of kids used to illustrate how creatively Andrew Hussie can kill his own characters off. In all seriousness though, the story is about a bunch of teenagers, alien and human who decide to play a game that ends up dooming their worlds. They continue to play in an attempt to beat the game and create a stable universe. They end up making a couple mistakes and creating an unbeatable boss. To which the humans have to scratch their session to survive. The trolls play it thinking, as well, that it is not a serious game that would doom them all, instead Sollux thinks that it would make him some great hero with Aradia. Sollux is of a species that calls themselves “trolls.” He hails from a planet called Alternia. In troll society there is what’s called a hemospectrum. One is regarded respect based on their blood caste; lower down, the reds, oranges, yellows are considered lower classes. These lower classes have shorter life spans and are often killed by higher bloods. They are seemingly less violent and some have special abilities (example: Sollux’s Psionics). The lower bloods are treated horribly, often used as slaves and some even hooked up to ships and used as batteries. The highest blooded troll is the Empress or her heir (Feferi). The Empress rules with an iron fist and is a rather corrupt ruler. Alternia is a war based planet, the young grow up fast and violent.

A troll is required to fill two pails with genetic material to reproduce and this survival of the fittest to reproduce ideal is branded into their minds even at a young age, causing them to look for quadrants. (There are four, matesprits, morails, kismesis and auspitice. The first two are based off of pity, the second two are based off of hate. Matespritship is the closest thing humans have to love.) Due to various rebellions and uprisings there is a rule that all adult trolls go into space to conquer planets and galaxies. The Empress is constantly expanding her empire and uses all the adults in this abuse of power.

Touching on the Quadrant topic, the “sexual” quadrants are matespritiship and kismesistude, both require a troll to fill a pail or they are killed by a drone. The drones are sent out to collect genetic material and return it to a mothergrub so their species can continue. It's common for trolls to stress over their quadrants even at a young age. Alternia's hemospectrum views and the violent tendencies tend to lead to unjust situations for those who's heart is in the right place but their presence is not. No one seems to care either, and if they do they are culled for it. The rebellions that went on were squashed by the violence of the highbloods such as the Empress and her “lapdog” The Grand Highblood who's whimsy was unbelievable when he was alive.

The younger trolls start out as wrigglers and end up spinning a cocoon and growing limbs and becoming a humanoid alien who then has to undergo many various trials in the brooding caverns where they find their guardian, a lusus. It's the closest thing they have to a parent, but it is more like a pet. It protects them and names them but they have to take care of it and feed it. Some, like Sollux, are rather careless with their lusii, going as far as to chain his to the roof and try to ignore it where others like Kanaya are very respectful of them.

Up until they go into space they live in a hive which is the alien equivalent of a house. They get to design it when they are young and carpenter drones left on the planet to cater to the young create them. This process is slightly flawed seeing how the trolls themselves don't really know what they want when they're so young. In general their culture is rather stressful and it shows in the common abundance of mental problems and unstability in the sanity of most of all trolls. It reaches so far they have to sleep in a sedative to try to curb horrible nightmares (or daymares in their case, seeing as they are nocturnal.).

If Sollux grew up normally as a psionic yellowblooded troll he would be recruited as a helmsman, someone who is used for their power and integrated into the ship to fly it with no free will until they become obsolete, aka worn out and die from overexertion. Of course, this isn't the case in the AU seeing as he flees from this fate, making himself public enemy number one for being a huge traitor. More which will be explained in the “If AU, How is Your Version Different From Canon, and How Will That Come Across?” section.

Personality:
Sollux is a huge introvert, he avoids people like the plague and would rather converse with someone online instead of in person. Of course this doesn't mean he would all out refuse to talk to someone in person. He is social when the situation calls for it. He simply enjoys the ability to ignore someone if they get on his nerves, which happens often with how moody he is. He also prefers text over spoken word due to his embarrassing lisp. He only gets along with a select bunch of trolls, ignoring or avoiding the ones he doesn't really find pleasant company.

The Gemini is bipolar and is very obvious, he can flip from content to depressed to manic in a matter of seconds. If he's in a good mood he can come off playful in a friendly manner. As friendly as Sollux can be anyway; it would be a huge lie to say he isn't a huge douchebag, even to his friends. Though despite this he is one of the less violent trolls in homestuck. In a bad mood he'll either make himself or the opposing person feel like utter shit, typically it's himself he loathes though. His bipolar swings are shown when he is first introduced, he rejects the reader not wanting to be introduced yet but quickly changes his mind and allows for the readers to find out about him.

If it wasn't obvious from everything he does yet, he has an affinity for twos.

He is a huge sap, in his own way, not like how Karkat is. No, he is romantic to his quadrant mates and will go unbearably slow and take his time with things instead of rushing into them, to some trolls' dismay. He's goodhearted though, self-sacrificing and caring, even if he comes off as a complete prick rather often. There's too much self-hate for him to actually get away with acting like he doesn't care about anyone else. He is also a sucker for the stereotypical romance settings, such as him falling for Aradia's promise of saving the world with her.

Sollux doesn't get along with many due to his crass humor. It's overly sexual and sometimes disturbingly odd. He seems to find it funny though and that's all that really counts because he'll use just about anyone to his expense for a good joke, especially if he likes them. Then he's going to make them squirm and try to fluster them. He comes up with bizarre metaphors, often with underlying sexual themes one example is where he compares someone who can't figure computers out by fucking with them to registered sex offenders. Last, but not least is the fact that he is a hacker. He's huge into coding, which can be sort of a problem with his mood swings. One day he is the best at it and happy with is work. The next day he will write a near perfect code, spending hours, even days on it and delete it because a comma is out of place which obviously makes him the shittiest troll in existence. Then there's a third problem that arises, when he goes manic and he's coding he'll forget to take care of himself at all because he doesn't want to take a break from his work. He'll go days without sleep, food and bathing because he is busy and those things are for suckers.

OC/AU Justification

If AU, How is Your Version Different From Canon, and How Will That Come Across?
T
he AU is played off the idea that Sgrub never existed, nor any elements relating or caused by. Without this factor, all the trolls have grown up and gone on with life as they would on Alternia, some accepting the descent into space, other's regretting it. While Feferi is about to become empress to abolish a lot of the unjust views in troll society, she still has to worry about Her Imperious Condescension (Who unbeknownst to Feferi is on her way back to challenge the young heiress).

So instead of the vast glub happening that wipes the troll race out of existence due to the lack of a psychic bond with the royal lusus, the Empress returns home to enforce her rule. Every troll is required to go into space once they hit a certain age to keep from trouble happening on the planet. It also helps expand the Empress' territory.

When they turn around 16 a space recruiter finds them and puts them on record by blood color and if they have special abilities. This helps them decide what fleet they'll be in, what their job will be and whether or not it will be slave labor or hooked up to a ship labor or otherwise if they are a highblood. As stated before, if Sollux went along with his recruiter instead of running away to become a rebel with Karkat he would end up a ship engine. Instead of that, he hides out with Karkat, always on the move.

Speaking of Karkat, they became moirails around the time he and Sollux decided to run away, as he found out that wow Sollux has a lot of fucking issues and needs someone there for him. Sollux though, is waxing red for his palemate, but only slightly. Their plan is to stay on the run and avoid the highbloods and other bounty hunters until Feferi comes to power so they don't have to worry about being put into a ship or being culled for mutant red blood. This of course become an obsolete plan later on when it comes news that Condesce challenged Feferi and murdered her, squashing all their hopes to freedom. Sollux became a stronger psionic over the years, having to use such powers to protect him and his moirail. He also changed personally; he's a bigger mess than he started out as, his body always strained and weak from not getting the nutrition he needs and overexerting himself with his powers (that Karkat is sure are killing him slowly.)

His moods have become more drastic on occasion and he's a bit more dramatic in a sense. He tries to fix everything on his own and not let Karkat in despite being morails. He tries to man up and deal with things, only to end up failing and needing more help. The AU in itself is simply as if Sgrub never happened, the trolls go on with their lives as they normally would have, all violent tendencies included. Of course neither Sollux nor Karkat are the type to just lay down and take defeat.

Samples

Log Sample:
Sollux lets out a sigh as his fingers pause from the keyboard. This is all wrong, he cannot do this. This code is terrible, what was he thinking. He stares at it for a moment longer before hitting the x and telling it no he doesn't want to fucking save, stop fucking asking him! Hours of code down the drain, god he's such a failure, it was just coming out wrong though. He couldn't have such sloppy code. He wanted his to mean something, to inspire someone somewhere on the fucking internet. Was that too much to ask for?

“Fuck... What am I thinking thith ith terrible. I'm terrible.”

Of course it's too much to ask for, he can't simply think that he'd ever amount to anything. His eyes burned and he was so fucking sleepy. With a groan he shuts the monitor off, not even bothering to turn his computer off, that's so much effort. Maybe it will just burn out and he'll never have to look at code again. This was horribly depressing and pathetic, he just wanted to sleep till the end of time and then some. God, why was he such a fucking failure? It was utterly horrendous.

[Sollux stares at his surroundings in disbelief, no this wasn't good, he needed his moirail, his best friend, what if something bad happened to Karkat? FUCK. It'd be all his fault, he wouldn't be there to protect him.]
